Biography

Biography of Lan Thi Thanh Nguyen: Dr. Lan Thi Thanh Nguyen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Liberal Arts at Wonkwang University and the Department of Korean Studies at Phenikka University. With a multidisciplinary background in International Studies, International Migration, Diaspora Studies, East Asia, Southeast Asia, International Trade, Gender Studies, Political Science, and Immigrant Health, Dr. Nguyen is committed to understanding the complex dynamics of migration, cross-cultural interaction, and global political economy. Dr. Nguyen earned her Doctorate in International Studies from Chonnam National University in South Korea, where she also received the prestigious BK21 and Global Plus Scholarships. She holds a Master’s degree in International Development Studies from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (also in South Korea), supported by the KOICA Scholarship. She also completed a Master’s in Vietnamese Studies from Vietnam National University, focusing on the international standard program. Her research interests primarily focus on international migration, the Vietnamese diaspora, immigrants' health, and transnationalism, with particular emphasis on the migration patterns and socio-political dynamics of Vietnamese communities in East Asia. Dr. Nguyen is passionate about studying the intersection of gender, health, and migration, particularly how female migrants, including those from Vietnam, navigate social, economic, and political challenges in their host countries. Her academic career has been marked by her dedication to teaching and researching topics related to global migration, international trade, regional development in East and Southeast Asia, and the Korean society. Dr. Nguyen’s work examines how migration policies, cross-border cultural exchanges, and economic forces shape the lives of migrants, particularly in countries like South Korea, Vietnam, and other parts of Asia. She has published numerous papers on these topics in reputable journals, contributing significantly to the field of international studies and migration. Dr. Nguyen is fluent in English, Korean, and Vietnamese, and utilizes her language skills to connect various academic communities, research opportunities, and institutional partnerships across Asia. As a scholar and educator, she strives to foster cross-cultural understanding and provide students with a comprehensive perspective on the ever-evolving global issues related to migration, development, and multiculturalism. In her capacity as a faculty member at Wonkwang University and Phenikka University, Dr. Nguyen teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in International Studies, Korean Studies, and Global Migration. She is deeply committed to mentoring students, encouraging them to engage with real-world issues of migration, cultural adaptation, and social justice.
