Biography

Dr. Yeshey Khandu is a Lecturer and Programme Coordinator for MSc Natural Resource Management at Department of Forest Science, College of Natural Resources, Royal University of Bhutan. Prior to joining RUB in 2004, he was Forest Conservator and Manager in managing, and conserving state forests including rangelands. He portrays profound academic professional capacity, knowledge, field experience and skills in forestry and dendrochronology. He is a founder and builder of Tree-Ring Laboratory at CNR (2008 – 2024). He is a specialist in dendrochronology that delve into paleoclimatology and paleoecology. As an academician and researcher, he focuses into application/association of these fields in ecological dynamics of forests, forest management, cryosphere, environments, and rangelands of Himalayan mountains. His recent research publication covers interaction between climate change and ecological dynamics of treeline ecotones of high elevation mountains in Bhutan Himalaya. He teaches students of MSc Natural Resource Management, PhD Climate Studies and BSc Forest Science, BSc Environment and Climate Studies. He takes profound interest in supervising MSc and PhD candidates in their research thesis. Currently, he is carrying out research in dendrohydrology (river flood dynamics) in relation to hydropower energy generation, treeline ecology and dynamics in relation to climatic variability in mountainous regions of Bhutan. For this research, he is using dendrochronological techniques to establish a climate–tree growth relationship and reconstruct past hydrological and climatic events.
