Li Zhang

Biography

Li Zhang is a professor at Purdue University, a designated Graphis Design Master, a director at the China Europe International Design Culture Association, and a renowned designer, speaker, juror, and editorial board member of international journals. Professor Zhang has been designated as a Fellow Expert of the China Foreign Experts Bureau, an Honorary Professor at five universities, and an Olympic research fellow and consultant at the Art Research Center for the Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Zhang has served on international jury panels in Italy, China, Korea, Poland, Germany, and the USA. Zhang has exhibited worldwide with a few hundred exhibitions/publications in about 50 countries including some of the world’s most important poster biennales and triennials: Warsaw (Poland), Fort Collins (USA), Mexico City (Mexico), Moscow (Russia), Trnava (Slovakia), and Sofia (Bulgaria). Zhang has also been invited to exhibit alongside a small group of influential designers like Paula Scher, Davis Paul, and Maviyane-Davis Chaz. Zhang is chosen as a Graphis Design Master to be featured in the Master Portfolio alongside highly influential pioneers such as Paul Rand(1914-1996), Issey Miyake(1938-2022), Paula Scher(b.1948), and Saul Bass(1920-1996). Zhang’s work has also been recognized with significant design awards, including multiple Graphis Gold Awards, First Prize in the Domtar Creative Awards, and the World’s Most Memorable Poster Competition’s Top One Award in the USA. More than seventy of Zhang’s works are in prestigious permanent collections, such as the Library of Congress (Washington, D.C.), the Zürich Museum of Design (Switzerland), the Victoria & Albert Museum (UK), Imperial War Museum (UK), the Ogaki Poster Museum (Japan), and the Lahti Poster Museum (Finland).
