Biography

Short Biography of Ms. Janeth Mjema Ms. Janeth Mjema is a PhD student at Southern University and A&M College. She is pursuing a Doctorate in Urban Forestry in the Department of Urban Forestry, Environment, and Natural Resources. She earned her BA in Education at Mwenge University College of Education in Tanzania and proceeded to study for a Master of Education in Educational Planning and Administration at the same institution. Her passion for forest management and climate change motivated her to pursue a Master of Urban Forestry at Southern University and A &M College. Her doctoral research focuses on the correlation between climate, land cover, and biodiversity change in Tanzania. The study assesses and calculates the land use/land cover changes in Tanzania, and East Africa over the 1990-2040-year period using Landsat Thematic Mapper and Enhanced Thematic Mapper from 1990 and 2020 respectively. The accuracy assessment of the classification results will be carried out by comparison using 1990 and 2020 aerial photographs of the area to be studied for the provision of the ground truth data. This study will reveal land cover and species changes and trends in Tanzania. The decline and loss of species in a region magnifies the impacts of climate change while contributing to climate change at the same time. Ms. Mjema has widely published in several peer-reviewed journals under the academic advisory of Dr. Yaw Twumasi. The journals contribute to the areas of forest management, climate change, coastal management, and bioenergy production and utilization. She is also a student member of professional organizations such as the Louisiana Academy of Sciences (LAS), the Society of American Foresters (SAF), and the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). During her free time, Ms. Mjema enjoys hiking and being a mother.
