Biography
Nicoletta Sciarrino is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Turin, where her current research focuses on children’s participation and activism in the pursuit of social and environmental justice in Italy, explored through an ethnographic and co-participatory approach. Her work also develops along two further strands: violence against women—particularly femicide, with attention to the methodological and analytical tools used to study this phenomenon—and the body, examined through the theoretical lens of the impairment–disability paradigm. In this area, she investigates how children perceive and make sense of non-normative bodies across diverse contexts in both the Global South and the Global North. Her recent monograph, Costruendo Disabilità. Corpi non conformi, infanzie e società in contesti tanzaniani (Aracne, 2024), is devoted to this topic. Methodologically, her research is grounded in qualitative approaches, including participant observation, in-depth interviews, and focus groups.
