Biography
Dr. Zacharoula Smyrnaiou is Associate Professor in "Contemporary Learning Theories and Science Education" in Department of Educational Studies in the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Vice President of the B.O.D. of the Computer Technology Institute and Press "Diophantus". She has BA in Science (Physics) (NKUA, Athens, Greece), MSc in Informatics (NKUA, Athens, Greece), DEA in Science Education (University of Paris V (Sorbonne)) and PhD in Science Education (Thèse de Doctorat) (University of Paris V (Sorbonne), France). She was Lecturer at NKUA (2010-2014), Adjunct Lecturer at NKUA (2008 – 2010), Adjunct Lecturer at University of Peloponnese (2005 – 2008), Consultant in Educational Policy (2004 – 2007), Cooperating Teacher at ASPETE (2003 – 2006), Adjunct Lecturer at University of Thessaly (2003 – 2004) and Science Teacher in Secondary Education (2001 – 2010). Dr Smyrnaiou has contributed to educational policy for the establishment of New Technologies, STEM and STEAM in the educational system and participated in the Committee on Educational Reform of the Physics Curriculum in Greece. In addition, she is Chairman of the Scientific Supervisory Board of 1st Experimental High School of Athens (2011-Present) and Project Manager in EU projects (LOOP Erasmus+ 2020-23, CREATIONS H2020-SEAC-2014-1 CSA, DESCI Erasmus +, PLAY4GUIDANCE-Erasmus +, FP7-Metafora, Erasmus Intensive Programme (Innovative practices for teaching science), FP6-e-comode, EDU-ELEARN-Recoil, ROSE, IST-School of Tomorrow- MODELLINGSPACE) and she has coordinated two projects of training science teachers and development of science curriculum funded by the Greek ministry of Education and participated in several national and European networking projects. She is also the coordinator of the research team of the faculty in a) Platform 21+ Lab’ (2020) project of the Institute of Educational Policy (IEP) (http://iep.edu.gr/en/ and b) Children's University (2020). She was Scientific expert for the Preparation of Educational Informational Material & Education Studies Program in the national project "Development and Prevention Network Operation Centre and Control of School Violence and Bullying" (Greek Ministry of Education, 10183/07-11-2014). In addition, she is the scientific leader of projects in the CTI- DIOPHANTUS such as i) “Development of Innovation Centers in 13 Regional Directorates” (2023-2026) - Strengthening the digital potential of education and modernization of vocational education and training, - DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION OF EDUCATION, Employment, Skills, Social Cohesion, ii) GIL4W - Greek Innovation Lab for Women: Collaboration for Knowledge Transfer from a Norwegian Policy Body for the Strengthening of Women's Expertise in R&D and Entrepreneurship in Greece, - Bilateral relations at national level.
