Biography

I was born on 20th October 1968 in Chilubi Island in the Northern Province of Zambia. I am a Zambian. I attended my primary education at Shitimali Primary school in Northern Province, I obtained my secondary education from Chinsali Girls Secondary School from 1984 to 1988. I joined religious group in the Catholic Church in 1989 and quitted in 2010 out of my own will because I failed to continue living this kind of life I made my decision to live as an ordinary Christian in the same catholic church. Out of all the careers, I settled for teaching. In 1993 to 1994 I pursued a primary Teacher’s Course at Kasama Teachers’ Training College by then which is now called Kasama College of Education. I hold a Primary Teacher’s Certificate. I was deployed to my first school and saved as a teachers at Mporokoso school for the blind for 13 years from 1995 to 2007. This deployment which was done by the government made me have interest in the lives of children or persons with disability after I had an encounter with them until now. I struggled to learn braille skill and understanding these type of learners. This deployment made me realize their need for my service to them and I decided to serve them for the rest of my life. Before this deployment I had no interest at all. Due to the struggle in obtaining braille skill while teaching it and failure to understand the learners with visual impairment I made up my mind to be trained . Thus in 1999 I pursued a one-year teacher training at Zambia Institute for special education (ZAMISE) and I obtained a certificate in special education and became a specialist teacher for special education for learners with visual impairment. I was inspired by two lectureres Mr Chikapa and Mr Mumba who were so dedicated while training us with my classmates. I emulated their dedication to duty from that time to date. In 2003 I enrolled for the Bachelor of Education (Special Education) in order to advance in my studies professionally at the University of Zambia and graduated in 2007. I hold a Bachelors degree in Education (Special Education). During my study at the university of Zambia I was inspired by the personal progress made by my lecturers who were just lecturers with their first degree in special education at the time I enrolled and by the time I was leaving the university they graduated with masters’ degree in special education and were encouraging us to do the same and I took their advice personally and decide to do equally the same and these are Professor Ndlovu Danniel, Professor Matafwali and Doctor Mandyata Joseph currently. Then I saved as a Head-teacher at Mporokoso School for the Blind for one year. In 2008 to 2012 I served as a deputy head-teacher at Saint Therese Girls Secondary School. I decided to pursue my master’s degree. I had financial challenge to do my master’s degree, however through personal effort in 2008 I was awarded scholarship by the Irish Embassy to pursue my master of education in Special and Inclusive Education at Queen’s University of Belfast (QUB) in the United Kingdom in Northern Ireland and graduated in 2009. I hold a Master’s degree in Special and Inclusive Education. When I was given a responsibility as a deputy head teacher I really struggled in performing my duties and I decided to train in order to manage the school well. Thus from 2010 to 2011 I enrolled for the diploma in Education Management under distance programme at National In-service Teacher Training College (NISTICO) Chalimbana in Zambia and graduated in 2012. I hold a Diploma in Education Management. I really appreciate the skills of management I obtained from this college which I use up to now at Kwame Nkrumah University at which I was appointed as Head of Department from 2018 to 2023. I was also inspired by Mr Lungwe who was a principal by then for Kwame Nkrumah College where I was transferred to from Saint Therese secondary school. He encouraged all the lecturers in one of the staff meetings to pursue doc
