Biography

My present post at CENICAFE involves the development of coffee rust management strategies, coffee rust genomics and Coffea species genomics; we are currently working on the development of molecular markers for the identification of rust genetic variants and races. I am a highly motivated, dedicated and confident research scientist and teaching professor with more than 20 years of experience on Data Analytics, Computational Biology and Bioinformatics applied to human health, agrobusiness and biodiversity and over 25 years of expertise in the areas of coffee plant pathology, coffee improvement and coffee integrated pest management. My leadership in all these fields in Colombia and Latin American countries is well recognised and I have also been involved in a large number of national and international collaborative endeavours. Research activities in these areas have also contributed to my skills in the management of large projects and scientific groups. I have published around 30 scientific papers, 3 books, and 7 book chapters and I have led projects of ∼U$8.5M in research funds as Principal Investigator since 2001. I am an adviser in the areas of Data Analytics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Plant Pest Control Management and Genomics, for public and private Research Institutes in Colombia and abroad.
