Biography

Born in Izmir, the artist graduated from the Dokuz Eylul University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkısh Handicrafts, Carpet, Rug And Traditional Fabric Designs in 1995. She started to work as a Research Assistant in the same department in 1996. She completed her master's degree in Dokuz Eylul University, Social Sciences Institute Traditional Turkısh Handicrafts Department in 1999 and the Proficiency in Art program at Dokuz Eylul University Fine Arts Institute in 2008. Gonca Karavar, who became a lecturer in 2011, an assistant professor in 2013, and an associate professor in 2020, is still working in the Traditional Turkısh Handicrafts Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Dokuz Eylul University. In addition to her solo exhibitions, the artist, who has participated in many group and group exhibitions, has various articles and papers on traditional carpet and rug weaving and the preservation and restoration of traditional weavings.
