Biography

Yang Soo Kim is Professor at the Department of Communication Studies at the Middle Tennessee State University. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Communication at the University of Oklahoma. He teaches courses in Intercultural Communication, Diversity, Small group Communication and Introduction to Organizational Communication at MTSU. He also taught Business Communication, International Business, Leadership and Organizational Communication and Global media at International Summer School overseas. As a former expatriate manager, Dr. Kim’s research focuses on global competence and cross-cultural adaptation among international managers and international students. His publications include “Global Business and Understanding Indonesian Culture” (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) Knowledge Press), “Adaptive personality, Communication Competence and Psychological Health: An Exploratory Study of Cross-cultural Adaptation of Korean Expatriates in India” (Journal of Intercultural Communication), “Communication Patterns, Host Receptivity, and Psychological Health in the Process of Cross-cultural Adaptation: A Study of Korean and Indonesian Expatriate Workers” (Ohio Communication Journal). He has now been expanding his focus of research into training and development such as Global leadership competence and organizational/business coaching among international business managers.
