Biography

My name is Basit Shahzad and I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Crop Science at Hainan University, China, focusing on the mechanistic and environmental toxicity of agricultural pesticides using zebrafish as a vertebrate model. My research integrates molecular toxicology, omics-based analysis, and ecological risk assessment to better understand the environmental impact of emerging agrochemicals. I have previously earned my Master’s degree from Nanjing Agricultural University, where my research centered on the biosynthetic accumulation of secondary metabolites in soybean plants and their defensive roles against biotic stresses. This work provided me with a strong foundation in plant molecular physiology, biochemical pathways, and stress biology. I have published and reviewed research related to plant–insect interactions, fungal biocontrol, and the role of secondary metabolites in plant defense. My current research interests include plant stress physiology, toxicogenomics, pesticide ecotoxicology, and sustainable agricultural management. Combining expertise in both plant science and environmental toxicology, I aims to contribute to the advancement of integrated pest management and environmentally responsible crop protection strategies.
