Biography

ACADEMIA A post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Criminology and Forensic Study in the Humanities College of the University of KwaZulu-Natal with many academic journal publications that range from health, communication management, trade and policies to other social science and humanity issues. He is also an external academic and lectures Strategic Communication and Inclusive Stakeholder Management at the Management College of Southern Africa (MANCOSA). He also serves a resource person in various management training His research interests are in Development Communication (global and public health, agriculture, rural development and environment, and education); Communication Management (corporate communication, crisis communication, culture, media and social media, and corporate social responsibility); Criminology and Society (human and social integration, migration, conflicts, gender issues and social works); Global Trade; and Human Resources Management. INDUSTRY Apart from his academic profile and strides, he has a versatile and extensive industry experience of 20+ years in various sectors of the economy which includes Construction (installations of granites and marble slabs and tiles), Telecommunication (Process, Project and Quality Management of Fibre Optics Cable and Base Stations), Information Communication Technology (Channels and Card management System and Support), Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Sports and Fitness Products Merchandise, Hospitality (Restaurant Management and Branding), Training and Manpower Development, and Communication Management (Public Relations, Polling, Marketing and Benchmarking). QUALIFICATIONS Dr. Akpan holds a doctoral degree in Media and Cultural Studies with bias for Public Health Communication from the Centre for Communication, Media and Society (CCMS) in the School of Applied Human Sciences, College of Humanities, University of KwaZulu Natal, Howard College, Durban, KZN, South Africa. He holds a masters degree in Communication Studies with bias for Communication Management, and a post graduate diploma in Public Administration both from Lagos State University in Ojo, Lagos, Nigeria.
